Devil and Scorpion is one of Tolman’s oldest available works and a personal favorite, rarely exhibited. Rather than reading the title literally, the painting can be seen as an abstract, almost map-like terrain, where bold red, green, black, and yellow forms suggest movement, tension, and symbolic energy.
